Utah always delivers! Whether it’s sunshine or storms, Solitude gets the goods. This year’s Pond Skim Beach Party was no exception, with sunny skies and warm temperatures providing perfect beach weather for one of our signature spring events. On April 13, over 100 costumed skiers and riders attempted to cross the 75-foot-long, 4-foot-deep pool that our mountain ops team constructed at the bottom of Main Street. Some made it across, many didn’t – but all were smiling when they exited the pond.
High Fives Foundation founder Roy Tuscany emceed our Pond Skim Beach Party. High Fives is a non-profit organization serving those who have sustained life-changing injuries across North America. As part of High Five’s Military to the Mountain program, Solitude welcomed a group of 10 critically wounded vets who were learning to ski and ride. Participants had recently completed a nine-week training program, preparing them for a week on the slopes at Solitude. It was our honor to host these warriors!
This season is starting to wind down and we have lots more fun in store before May 12. Our Bump-Off Mogul Competition take place on Saturday, April 27 and is open to all. Show off your bump riding skills in the mogul field currently being developed on lower Main Street. Competitors will be entered in a raffle to win great prizes. View the action from Last Chance Lodge and then enjoy food, drinks, and live music at the Last Chance Beach Bash – our final beach bash of the season.
And on Sunday we’ll be celebrating Pride at Solitude, offering free laps through our Pride-decorated NASTAR course.
Solitude will close for the season on Mother’s Day, May 12, with free chocolates and flowers for moms. With our base just below the 90-inch mark, we feel confident about reaching that date. Our major terrain gates, including those leading into Honeycomb Canyon, are now closed for the season. You’ll find plenty of fun skiing and riding in Solitude Canyon and the front side of the mountain. Stay tuned to our website and Solitude social media for additional details on events, as well as the current status of terrain.
