Aptly-named Sunrise is the easternmost chairlift at Solitude. A fixed-grip triple, it provides ample time to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and recharge for your next run. Sunrise boasts views of upper Big Cottonwood Canyon and Guardsman Pass, which leads to Park City in summer. Are you in search of Solitude’s “necklace tree”? You’ll find that along the ride up Sunrise, too. In summer, this chairlift brings riders to our downhill mountain biking terrain. Ride with Solitude President & COO Amber Broadaway as she discovers this historic chairlift and takes a break at Last Chance Lodge. She also shares some top-secret plans for the coming seasons!
Sunrise chairlift was installed in 1977. For many years, it was the only way to get to Summit chairlift before the Summit Express upgrade in 2015. During that project, tower assemblies from the old Summit chairlift were moved to the Sunrise lift towers. It was a much-needed improvement!
Some of Solitude’s best intermediate terrain is accessed via Sunrise chairlift. It’s a perfect next step for skiers and riders who have conquered the Moonbeam area. For a serious challenge (with an audience!), point your skis down Roller Coaster, under the lift line. This narrow black diamond run is peppered with bumps and a double fall line to keep you on your toes.
When you’ve had your fill of all Sunrise has to offer, head to Last Chance Lodge. You can ski there from Sunrise or walk from Solitude Village. You can get to Last Chance from the Moonbeam base area via Link chairlift. Or you can catch the free shuttle from either place.
Last Chance Lodge is Solitude’s most spacious dining area. It has two floors and plenty of tables to spread out and warm up. Cafeteria-style dining features Southwestern cuisine such as tacos, chili, and a delicious chicken sandwich. Last Chance serves breakfast seven days a week. Choose among huevos rancheros, breakfast quesadilla, and biscuits and gravy. Fill your belly with a hearty meal to fuel your day on the slopes!
In spring, the Last Chance ski beach is the place to be. You can watch skiers careen down Main Street as you hone your goggle tan. For 2022, we will be expanding the ski beach and debuting a spring concert series. We expect it will be the perfect vantage point to view our first-ever pond skim event, too! Details on that coming soon.
Thanks to our guests, staff, and community for a wonderful holiday period. Wishing you all a happy new year and an awesome 2022.
