It’s late October and skiing and riding are just around the corner! As winter approaches, crews are working vigorously to wrap up construction projects on the mountain, including putting the final touches on our new snowmaking pipeline. Small storms have blanketed the higher elevations with snow, but we are still waiting for Mother Nature to kick into high gear. Once temperatures have reliably dropped, snowmaking will begin.

Leadership Team Additions

Our team continues to grow. Solitude has welcomed new leaders in recent months. With wide ranging responsibilities, here are a couple folks shaping your visit both on on and off the mountain.

Scott Leigh
VP of Recreation Services

Scott joined us in February, and brings decades of industry experience to the resort. As leader of our Recreational Services team, Scott oversees guest services, tickets, retail, rentals, the Nordic Center, and the Ski & Ride School.

Improvements you will find this year include multi-packs for rentals, seasonal rentals, and a revamped Team Solitude program. He has also facilitated renovated restrooms at the Nordic Center and refreshed our rental fleet.

Look for Scott anywhere on the snow, but especially on more advanced terrain. He loves getting out on the hill with friends and family.

Janna Allen
Director of Ski Patrol

Janna joined us this summer and oversaw patrol for Solitude Bike Park. She brings decades of industry experience to her role, including 23 years patrolling.

Janna manages a team consisting of over 40 patrollers, including the members of our avalanche mitigation team. She is safety focused both for guests and patrol. Recent projects include helping oversee installation of four new Wyssen Towers on Fantasy Ridge. We now have eight towers installed on the ridge, providing remote avalanche mitigation capability for that terrain. The additional towers will help reduce dangerous exposure for patrol, and let you ski Honeycomb Canyon even sooner.

When not on patrol, you can find Janna skiing (or sometimes boarding) in the trees or on steeps. You may also find her in the singles line where she is happy to catch a ride with you to talk shop and learn your favorite ski spots.

Snowmaking Begins Soon

Solitude always seeks to be the first resort open in Utah, and maintain the longest season as well. We are gunning for those titles again this year. Snowmaking is expected to begin soon. See you again in a couple weeks — hopefully on skis!
