Winter in the Wasatch is in full force. Snow is falling and lots of stuff is happening both on and off the mountain right now, including special events you won’t want to miss.
UDOT Sticker Program
It’s not too late to get your free UDOT Cottonwood Canyons Sticker. If you don’t have a sticker yet, please get one!
Traffic law checkpoints are in effect this season. On stormy days, UDOT checks your vehicle for traction law compliance. This has resulted in frustrating bottlenecks at the canyon mouth on days when you want to be skiing the most. Having a UDOT Cottonwood Canyons Sticker speeds up traffic checkpoints for yourself and everyone else. When traffic enforcement sees your sticker at a checkpoint, they’ll wave you through the line. Stickers are free and available from participating locations throughout the valley.
NSAA Safety Month
Solitude cares about your safety on the hill. Skiing and riding involve inherent risk, but you can reduce your chance of injury by knowing the code and practicing safe skiing and riding techniques.
January is NSAA (National Ski Area Association) Safety Month, and we have activities happening every Saturday to improve safety awareness on the mountain. Check out these special events:
January 18, Know the Zone
Visit our display at the base of Moonbeam and learn how to prevent on-mountain collisions. The first 100 guests get a free t-shirt!
January 25, Terrain Parks 101
Back by popular demand! Pop into the Tude Dudes terrain park for free lessons from Solitude’s freestyle instructors. Meet up to talk safety and etiquette with the #SoliParks crew before hitting the park. Win fun prizes, too!
The Wasatch Powderkeg
Solitude was proud to host the Wasatch Powderkeg once again this year. This event featured four days of skimo (ski mountaineering) racing in multiple disciplines, including the USA Skimo National Championships. Competitors included everyone from recreational skiers to future Olympians (skimo will make its debut as an official Olympic event at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics).
Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Weekend
Join us Saturday, January 18, for holiday fun. We currently have 11 exciting events listed on our events calendar, including our signature torchlight parade and fireworks show. Kick off your evening by attending our magic show and lasagna dinner at Last Chance Lodge, then step outside to see the parade and fireworks. Other fun activities include an avalanche dog demo, live music at The Thirsty Squirrel, and an Alphorn concert in Solitude Village.
