Solitude is best known for its alpine skiing and riding, but we also have an excellent Nordic and snowshoe area. With 20 kilometers of groomed trails in a beautiful forest setting, this is a Solitude gem which really sets up apart. We offer trails for both classic and skate skiing, as well as snowshoeing.
Just a few miles east of Solitude Village sits the Nordic & Snowshoe Center. Here you can rent ski gear and snowshoes for all ages, and we also offer lessons and tours. Whether you are individual looking to move from traditional Nordic skiing into skate skiing, a family looking to try on snowshoes for the first time, or a private group looking for a guided tour of the local forest, we have plenty of fun options waiting for you.
Step outside the back door of Nordic Center and you are greeted by the beauty of Silver Lake. Renowned for its scenery in summer, Silver Lake is also spectacular in the winter. Silver Lake offers flat terrain that’s perfect for beginners and families looking to ski or snowshoe. Just to the west of the lake is a forested area that offers rolling trails and some slightly steeper pitches.
We host some great events at our Nordic Center, including Nordic Nights which takes place throughout the winter. During Nordic Nights, guests enjoy the beauty of our Nordic and snowshoe trails by the light of the moon as hundreds of torches and candles guide the way. Hot chocolate and s’mores help warm the evening.
New this year, we now offer ski and snowshoe rentals from the Creekside building within Solitude Village. Open Friday through Sunday, this is a convenient location to get your gear before heading directly into the forested part of the Nordic area. We plan on expanding this facility to daily operations next season.
Our Nordic trails provide a different way to experience Solitude away from the bustling lodges and speedy slopes.
