Nestled between two popular Utah ski resorts, Brighton and Solitude, it’s all too easy to overlook the Solitude Nordic & Snowshoe Center. But with 20 kilometers of groomed trails through beautiful mountain terrain, along with plenty of options for exploring them, this gem of a place is not to be missed.
Terrain in the Wasatch can be steep, but the Nordic Center has special claim to some of the gentlest grades in the area. The trails around Silver Lake portion of the Nordic Center are relatively flat, providing a great learning environment whether you are clipping into Nordic skis for the first time or looking to make the jump to skate skiing. Private and group lessons are taught by PSIA-certified instructors, and available to skiers of all levels. The Nordic Center offers special learning programs as well, like a four-week women’s skate ski clinic coming up later this month. For snowshoers, a two-hour guided tour provides a fascinating look at the flora and fauna of the surrounding wilderness.
Beyond the flats of Silver Lake lies a rolling forest of evergreens and aspens. More advanced skiers can find steeper grades here, while snowshoers can find lovely trails to explore. Whatever your means of transport, you’re sure to enjoy some peace and relaxation during your visit.
The trails at the Nordic Center are groomed nightly, with a special snowcat dedicated to the job. Our grooming crew maintains traditional Nordic tracks as well as skate skiing tracks. View our website or app to see the current grooming status of trails.
The Nordic Center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but also hosts Nordic Nights on select dates throughout the season. At Nordic Nights, guests ski or snowshoe after dark with hundreds of torches and candles lighting the way. It’s truly a magical experience, especially if the full moon is out. Fire pits are there to warm your hands after hitting the trails, along with complimentary s’mores and hot chocolate. These events are perfect for beginners, with rentals available and guides and instructors lending a helping hand on the trails. The remaining Nordic Night dates are February 24, March 9 and March 23. Tickets and details can be found under each event on our events calendar.
Looking for a great place to host a private event? Rent the Nordic Center to provide a unique experience for your family, friends, or team. Food and beverage catering is available.
Presidents’ Week is just around the corner and there’s lots of stuff happening on the mountain including fireworks and a torchlight parade. With all the excitement happening on the main hill, don’t forget about the Nordic Center just a couple miles up the road. It’s another great way to experience winter at Solitude!
